Why Warp Uses Rust Here
Latency spikes kill throughput. Warp renders terminal grids at 120fps directly on the GPU via Metal, Vulkan, DX12, and WebGL2/WebGPU, parsing gigabytes of ANSI escape sequences per second without dropping frames.
We are hiring a Senior Rust Systems Engineer (GPU Terminal & Cross-Platform UI) (US Remote) at $185,000 to $250,000 USD. Optimize PTY throughput and SIMD VT100 escape parsing, reduce input-to-photon latency, and build sandboxed agent execution environments.
Day-to-Day Engineering Scope
- Architect and benchmark core crates built around wgpu and GPUI and egui and Tokio and Wasmtime.
- Replace allocation-heavy paths with zero-copy buffers, arena allocators, or lock-free ring queues.
- Pair with upstream open-source maintainers and internal platform teams to ship fault-tolerant releases.
Technical Expectations & Pay
- Demonstrated mastery of Rust ownership, pinning, lifetimes, and concurrency primitives (wgpu, GPUI, egui).
- Comfort reading assembly output (`cargo asm`), kernel tracepoints, or wire protocol captures when abstractions leak.
- Verified package: $185,000 to $250,000 USD base salary plus competitive equity and global remote healthcare.
