Engineering Overview: Principal Rust WebAssembly Compiler Engineer (Wasmtime & Cranelift)
Fastly Compute instantiates isolated Wasmtime instances in under 35 microseconds per HTTP request using pre-initialized memory pooling allocator slots and hardware MPK/guard pages. Improve Cranelift register allocation and e-graph mid-end optimizations (`isle`), and advance async support in WASI Preview 2/3.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain high-throughput Rust subsystems centered on Wasmtime, no_std, Hyper.
- Eliminate mutex contention and unnecessary serialization copies across internal RPC and storage boundaries.
- Collaborate asynchronously with senior systems architects across US / UK / Remote.
Qualifications & Total Rewards
- Proven systems engineering background in Rust, including deep knowledge of no_std, Hyper, Tokio.
- Ability to reason from first principles about CPU cache lines, I/O bandwidth, and distributed consensus trade-offs.
- Transparent pay band: $195,000 to $265,000 USD base salary, equity ownership, and hardware stipend.
