Technical Context & Problem Space
Scale Figma's Rust multiplayer synchronization servers and client-side WebAssembly canvas rendering pipeline.
Rewriting our real-time document sync servers in Rust cut tail latency and memory overhead by 10x using custom arena-allocated document trees and zero-copy binary delta serialization. Every microsecond saved on the hot path translates directly into lower hardware footprint.
Key Engineering Deliverables
- Scale stateful CRDT document rooms, optimize WebSocket broadcast fanout, and maintain Rust-to-WASM client rendering modules.
- Harden distributed state machines and I/O pipelines written in wgpu, Wasmtime, Tokio, Hyper against network partitions and disk faults.
- Build deterministic benchmarks and chaos tests that catch regressions before production rollout.
Candidate Profile & Compensation
- 3+ years writing performance-critical systems software in Rust (with production exposure to wgpu and Wasmtime).
- Solid grasp of virtual memory, page caches, thread-per-core scheduling, or modern hardware interconnects.
- Annual base band: $200k - $275k USD (US Remote), paired with equity and async-first remote workflows.
