Engineering Overview: Senior Rust Edge Proxy & Anycast Networking Engineer (fly-proxy)
Every bare-metal server at Fly.io runs `fly-proxy` (Rust/Tokio/Hyper) alongside `corrosion` (SWIM gossip + CRDT SQLite state propagation in Rust) and eBPF packet forwarders. Diagnose Linux kernel conntrack/netfilter edge cases, tune WireGuard mesh routing latency, and scale zero-downtime proxy reloads.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain high-throughput Rust subsystems centered on WireGuard, eBPF, Hyper.
- Eliminate mutex contention and unnecessary serialization copies across internal RPC and storage boundaries.
- Collaborate asynchronously with senior systems architects across Worldwide Remote.
Qualifications & Total Rewards
- Proven systems engineering background in Rust, including deep knowledge of eBPF, Hyper, Tokio.
- Ability to reason from first principles about CPU cache lines, I/O bandwidth, and distributed consensus trade-offs.
- Transparent pay band: $175,000 to $230,000 USD base salary, equity ownership, and hardware stipend.
