Technical Context & Problem Space
Optimize multi-gigabit encrypted overlay networking, UDP segmentation offload (GSO/GRO), and embedded Rust networking components.
You will push encrypted WireGuard packet throughput past 40Gbps per core using Linux generic receive offload, io_uring socket rings, and constant-time Rust crypto. Every microsecond saved on the hot path translates directly into lower hardware footprint.
Key Engineering Deliverables
- Eliminate packet copies across TUN/socket boundaries, improve NAT hole-punching success rates on carrier-grade NATs, and write eBPF socket steers.
- Harden distributed state machines and I/O pipelines written in WireGuard, QUIC, eBPF, io_uring against network partitions and disk faults.
- Build deterministic benchmarks and chaos tests that catch regressions before production rollout.
Candidate Profile & Compensation
- 3+ years writing performance-critical systems software in Rust (with production exposure to WireGuard and QUIC).
- Solid grasp of virtual memory, page caches, thread-per-core scheduling, or modern hardware interconnects.
- Annual base band: $185k - $245k USD (US / Canada / Remote), paired with equity and async-first remote workflows.
