Why RisingWave Labs Uses Rust Here
Latency spikes kill throughput. Hummock decouples stateful stream operator checkpoints onto S3 compatible object stores with hybrid memory/NVMe block caches using custom Rust `foyer` caching primitives.
We are hiring a Senior Rust Streaming Storage Engineer (Hummock Cloud LSM-Tree) (Worldwide Remote) at $165,000 to $215,000 USD. Tune hybrid memory+NVMe cache eviction in `foyer`, reduce S3 API request costs during streaming barrier checkpoints, and speed up state recovery.
Day-to-Day Engineering Scope
- Architect and benchmark core crates built around LSM-Tree and Apache Arrow and Parquet and Tokio and Tonic.
- Replace allocation-heavy paths with zero-copy buffers, arena allocators, or lock-free ring queues.
- Pair with upstream open-source maintainers and internal platform teams to ship fault-tolerant releases.
Technical Expectations & Pay
- Demonstrated mastery of Rust ownership, pinning, lifetimes, and concurrency primitives (LSM-Tree, Apache Arrow, Parquet).
- Comfort reading assembly output (`cargo asm`), kernel tracepoints, or wire protocol captures when abstractions leak.
- Verified package: $165,000 to $215,000 USD base salary plus competitive equity and global remote healthcare.
