Engineering Overview: Senior Rust Systems Engineer (uv & Python/AI Packaging Infrastructure)
Astral's Rust codebase relies on arena allocation, compact AST representations, APFS/btrfs reflink/hardlink filesystem optimizations, and parallel HTTP range-request wheel resolution. Optimize cross-platform filesystem syscalls on Linux, macOS, and Windows, tune PubGrub version solving for complex PyTorch/CUDA index trees, and reduce binary footprint.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain high-throughput Rust subsystems centered on PyO3, Tokio, Hyper.
- Eliminate mutex contention and unnecessary serialization copies across internal RPC and storage boundaries.
- Collaborate asynchronously with senior systems architects across Worldwide Remote.
Qualifications & Total Rewards
- Proven systems engineering background in Rust, including deep knowledge of Tokio, Hyper, Serde.
- Ability to reason from first principles about CPU cache lines, I/O bandwidth, and distributed consensus trade-offs.
- Transparent pay band: $190,000 to $255,000 USD base salary, equity ownership, and hardware stipend.
